Quality characteristics
The length of the fibre
The length of the fibre from the best raw material coming from China and Mongolia is about 35 to 50 mm. This length is needed to produce premium yarn.
Fine fibre, small width
Another criteria for good quality is the width of the cashmere fibre. It is measured in um. Fibres coming from Iran have a width of 17,5 to 19 µm, fibres from Afghanistan 16,5 to 18um.
To produce the extremely fine cashmere yarn of the highest quality the «cashmere two ply 28000» only fibres having a width of 14 at most 16.5 um can be used. This quality is only found in China and Mongolia.
Perfect technique, little granning
The share of the granning hair is the third quality criteria. Granning hair is the rawer guard hair of the goats. It can not totally be removed by combing away the precious underhair, but its share varies strongly. The lower the share of it, the better the quality of the cashmere fleece and thus the item.
